THE LOG FILE (2001+)
News Archive, Recent News is on the main page

  • Dec 1, 2006: Updated the Web Wargames list. Added some new games to the directory, and removed some dead links.

  • Nov 1, 2006: Fixed a problem with the email validation system. Some users encountered difficulties when there were multiple profiles, or if multiple validation emails were sent out.

  • Sep 12, 2006: The Challenge Boards now support login cookies. This greatly facilitates posting challenges, and, since your challenge is now tied to your profile, others can contact you through the message system. Email addresses posted through this system are now hidden.

  • Sep 8, 2006: Major Change: The database now uses login cookies. While alone this is a convenience, the most important change is that user emails are no longer displayed. Email harvesting by spam and phishing companies has been getting pretty aggressive, so email addresses are now private and are no longer displayed. Other users can still be contacted indirectly through an email form. Note that the Challenge Boards will still display what you post but in the future this, and the Game Links will be tied to your user profile. If you spot any bugs or have any questions, please Contact Us.

The more people who play the game the bigger the prizes get, and with its dynamic leader boards you can follow your progress in the competition whenever you like. These makes it one of the first competitions where you instantly know if you're in with chance of winning, so you can decide to either stop there or try again; the ability to win is placed in your hands. New registrations are given 3 game credits for free allowing you the chance to win some of these fantastic prizes for free."

  • Jun 4, 2005: Added the ability to post by region to the Challenge Boards. It's a rough implementation, but several users have been asking for the ability to focus their post based on location. Also, a lot of old challenge boards have been cleaned up.

  • Apr 23, 2005: A German boardgame company called UGG has an interesting program called Project P500 which presents a large number of new game designs but will only print the games that get at least 500 preorders. • Mar 7, 2001: Observed that several people were typing "cityname, state" into the search box. Since the search tool only looks for sub-string matches in the list of cities, all of these searches were failing. Now, the tool is a bit smarter about this type of query.

Of even more value, the tool now does some rudimentary typo/spelling checks to identify near matches. Currently, this is limited to spaces and extra characters at the end of the string. To see this in action, try querying on NewYork or Houston Southwest.

  • Mar 4, 2001: Two typos were corrected in the games database, which will require you to correct any links that you currently have to the database.
